  You are Colleen Fisher. You are an archeologist and a loving wife. Together with your husband Aiden Fisher, you have been on many archeological digs. You were the ones who discovered the ancient burials in Beer Sheba, and you were the ones who found the new store of mummies in the Valley of the Queens. Most recently you have been working as Archeology professors at the St. Paul University in Madison Wisconsin. That is where you met Karyn Sims. She also works at St. Paul’s, though she is in the office of Campus Life. You and her became friends, she is the nice, happy sort. A while back she had told you about some family letters she had. They are from the late 1800s, when a relative of hers was at an archeological dig. The letters were plain enough, though as they progressed even you could tell something was not right. At the beginning Theodore Sims was a happy enough fellow, enjoying his experience at playing archeologist. As time went on though, he seemed to get more and more paranoid about what all the other fellows on the dig were doing, and about there being some sort of secret at the dig site. Finally, the letters had stopped, and apparently noone had heard from poor Theodore after that. Karyn was very interested in figuring out what happened to her great great grandfather and had been agitating for you and Aiden to go to the dig he was at. Never one to pass up an opportunity to dig, you did a little research into what was being dug up at this Amazon site, and it seemed pretty interesting. An abandoned dig, seemingly cursed, with ruins of an ancient site of worship. What could be more exciting? You convinced Aiden that this was the perfect dig for you, and together you found a backer for the venture. Tex Thompson is a rich businessman from Texas, who you have worked with before. He has a whole ton of money and not a whole lot of smarts. He is coming with you on the expedition.

Also coming with you is Erin Fisher, your daughter. She is a precocious teenager, and you hope she will some day become an archeologist like her parents. Well, like one of her parents. Although neither he nor she know it, Erin is not Aiden’s daughter. You see, fifteen years ago your marriage was a bit rocky and you had an affair with a man named Gabriel Fitzwilliams. He was a good and kind man, and you had hurt him deeply by not telling him you had been married. Once he found out, he broke off your affair, and disappeared. You never had the chance to tell him you were pregnant, and you never had the heart to tell your husband. With the birth of your daughter, your marriage seemed to have repaired itself and you have been happy since.

Also along on the expedition is Nancy Macdonald. You have no idea why she is coming, except that Tex insisted. She is a biochemist of some sort, and you just hope she doesn’t get in the way too much. She seems to have a real liking for Karyn, which is good, since she is also coming with you. In fact, it is a pretty large group, what with your grad student Rayvin Crowe coming along to help, and Betsy Gordon, an new archeologist that Aiden found somewhere. Rayvin is an odd sort. You are almost sure that is not his real name, and he seems very gloomy and into weird things. He dresses almost always in black. You just hope he is not too much of a bad influence on your daughter.

It is bad enough that Erin seems to have developed a liking for the local kid that you had hired to carry some of the equipment. She is too young to be thinking like that in general, and a native boy in particular. Really, teenagers, what can you do with them?
