The Cosgrove Expedition - 1872

Five companions set out from Oxford to study archaeology in the amazon.

Theodore gets sick fairly quickly. He has difficulty breathing and not much appetite. The group rests with village (almeirim). Bastards don't have tea. Collin and Edmund eventually take interest in the same woman there (Maria). The group finds some temple. People of Almeirim don't want the archaeologists poking at the temple (they regard it the same way as we see ancient indian burial ground). Edmund proclaims his love for Maria (since he impregnated her) and wants to stay with the tribe and give up the dig. Collin challenges him to a duel (on the ground that he's a coward and not a man). Edmund wins.

The men continue on to the temple, where Theodore (who was finally getting better as he adjusted to things) relapses and starts vomitting.

They decide to rest there since travel wouldn't help.

Edmund decides he's going to actually be a man and not run from his resonsibilities and return to maria.

Collin takes offense and kills Edmund in cold blood (he also wanted Maria of course and was frustrated that despite being more macho Edmund won).

I suppose that since Edmund was the sensible one he was also the one who knew what was good to eat and how to make water potable.

Caleb challenges Collin for having killed their provider of food.

Collin points out that he supplied them with a hundred pounds of meat that was good enough for the villagers back there.

Caleb shoots Collin, but only hits his leg.

Caleb, Bernhard, and a sickly Theo enter the caves.

Collin follows after splinting his leg.

It became obvious that Theodore was sicker than he let on.

His sweaty clothing barely clung to his body.

If the group had a more reliable light source, you would have sworn his skin had no hue to it at all any more.

Bernhard was the first to suggest cannibalism.

It was quite clear that the group wasn't getting out the way they came in.

Caleb never really loses hope of finding whats in here, but decides that he should use his friends to get to the treasure, then kill them and have it for himself.

Theo continues to write letters though they never get delivered of course.

Collin is found deep in the cave with his skull caved in.

Bernhard is still worried about what they'll eat.

The very last journal shows that Bernhard thinks Theo will die and they should eat him now before the meat goes bad.

When Bernhard confronts Caleb about this, Theo wakes up and pwnz0rs them. Of course this doesn't find its way into any journals. maybe into one of theo's letters.
