The Curse

Captain has a sexually trasnmitted disease from his estranged spouse that forces him to do the chicken dance every hour. To cover this up, he has made it a ship tradition. However, it will hit while he is off the ship, forcing him to explain it.
The doctor can cure it, and can explain that it is sexually transmitted, giving him reason to divorce his spouse.
