Setting

June 23, 2060. At Sky Meadow State Park in Paris, Virginia, the Scientific Human Interplanetary Freedom and Rebirth Association (SHIFRA) is set to launch its colony ship into space. An unruly mob has formed around the vessel.

Sergeant Fred O'Malley

You've been selected by your superiors in the police department to lead this small task force. They should have given you more people, though. They should have expected more people would want to get on this ship.

So it's up to you three to keep this rather large and rowdy crowd from getting on the ship. This is going to be tough, but it's your job, and you have to do it... by whatever means necessary.

Officer Susan Hannigan

You were assigned to assist Sargent O'Malley as security detail at the launching of this ship. When you heard about the assignment, you thought three people were too many for such an assignment. Now, you think it's too few.

There are so many people trying to get on this ship. You're not even that sure why. It's not like the world is going to blow up tomorrow. It's not even that bad. Yeah, a few coastal cities got flooded, but it's not as bad as all these people say.

Officer Jeremy Randall

You were assigned to assist Sargent O'Malley as security detail at the launching of this ship. You were surprised to hear that only three people were assigned in total. You had a feeling that there were going to be a lot of people trying to get on, and you were right. The crowd is much to big for you three to handle.

You know how they feel. You wish you were getting on that ship too. The world is going to hell and there's no fixing it at this point. I mean, hell, a large portion of the eastern coastline is underwater now.

But you can't leave your post, you can't get on that ship, and you're here to stop these people from getting on it, as much as you don't like the thought of it. Sergeant O'Malley told you to be armed, but you really hope it's just for intimidation.

Andrea Skala

You can't believe this day has come. The ship that you and your colleagues at SHIFRA have worked so long to build is finally ready for takeoff. You're responsible for the final launch preparations. Unfortunately, one of the passengers is missing: a man named Joshua Nakshum. You don't know where he is, and you're not sure how he's going to get through this mob and the police lines if he's somewhere out there. You'd rather not close the door without him, but time is running out - you've got to launch the ship.

Mark Johnson

Ah, the NX1138. You worked on it's engine fuel intake regulator, among other things. You know that engine inside and out. You've been imagining that engine taking you beyond the stars. Now they're telling you that there's no more room on the ship. There are many people all fighting to get on, to make it off the planet. You know you have more of a right to a seat on that ship than all of these people, but you don't know how you're going to get that point across.

Joshua Nakshum

You've been watching the world slowly crumbling for the last few years and you've been waiting for a way to get off the planet. And here it is. This ship is your last chance to escape the oncoming downfall of the planet and its ecosystem. You got yourself a spot on the passenger list. Unfortunately, you got here late and now there's a mob surrounding the ship.

You're not going to let this chance slip through your fingers. The planet is dying and you don't expect to go with it. You'd rather be shot here and now than sit and wait for the world to fall apart under you. You know that there are only one or two cops; maybe you can fight your way through the crowd and make a dash for it...

Jennifer Deaton

You've been waiting for the launch of this ship for months. You drove across the country to get to the launch site, and now they tell you that there aren't many seats left on the ship. You can't believe they would do this to you. It's outrageous. And now they have these policemen standing in your way. This is almost insulting.

Stuart Cobine

You don't know why you didn't hear about this until now, you've been on all the right mailing lists and forums. But hey, if someone's going to send a ship out past the furthest reaches of the solar system, you're going to be on it. You've been waiting to go into space since you were a child. This is going to be fantastic.

Louise Cook

Damnit, you are getting off this planet no matter what. You got to the launch site and now they won't let you through to the ship. This world is going to hell, and you can't stay here any longer. You're scared and this seems like the only option. You don't want to die here.

Kara Tsui

This is going to be possibly the single most important voyage in human history since Noah and his Ark. You know you need to be on it. Being on that ship will make you a part of history and an integral part of the future of the human race.

Jeannette Montanello

You've been waiting to get off this dying planet ever since you found out just how bad the situation is. You tried making a difference, tried helping save the environment; you've been recyling, you've been riding your bicycle more, but there was nothing you could do. This is your last chance to escape the oncoming doom. So you dragged your boyfriend, Stefan Richardson, to the launch site of the colony ship and you're determined to get on it.

Stefan Richardson

Your girlfriend, Jeannette Montanello, dragged you here. She's been telling you about the "death of the planet" and the "damage that corporations have done" for months. She thinks she's an environmentalist, but she hasn't been doing *that* much. Now she wants to leave the planet? I mean, you're not really sure you'd go with her if she does, I guess you'll cross that bridge when you get to it.

Joel Bergner

This is going to be awesome. It's going to be just like that episode of Star Trek, when Picard transports this colony from a dying world onto the Enterprise. They got to hang out with all the officers and it was so cool. You're all ready to go out and explore new worlds and go boldly where no man has gone before.

Elizabeth Lundberg

You don't really know why all these other people are here. The state of the planet isn't horrible. You just kind of want to see what's out there, among the stars. You want to explore the furthest reaches of human knowledge. This is the most advanced vessel the human race has built and it will go further than anyone has ever seen, mapped, or even perceived. This is the future of science and humanity.
