The Red Family

The Red Family is a long and illustrious lineage that has spread throughout the stars and across every planet in the known galaxy. Over the course of generations, various immigration officials have changed or distorted the last name. Now there are dozens of different lines within the Red Family: the Scarlets, the Rojos, the Carmines, the Rotts, etc. Despite their distribution, the Red Family are the model of connectedness. Their clear lines of inheritance and duty put to shame anything else that has ever been created. Their communications leave no Red without information about what has happened to another Red within a short period of time. How the Red Family is able to do this is a mystery known only to them and is never discussed outside of the family.

The Red Family, whatever line, is known for its diligence and willingness to be on the frontlines of any conflict to protect others. The Red Family has quietly and solemnly served to help protect others and keep the galaxy safe for as long as anyone can remember. The Red Family is so honored for their many generations of service as to have a general waiver from the usual corporate colors and are privileged to wear red shirts.

The Red Family makes contracts with individual ships, persons or planets all the time. Their detailed contracts and planning assure that should one member of the Red Family fall in the course of duty (which happens with considerable frequency), there is another Red ready to continue service virtually immediately. How the Red Family is able to do this is a mystery known only to themselves and never discussed outside of the Family.

Throughout the centuries, the Red Family has been a loyal member of Walton Worlds. While individually, few have vast holdings, over time the breadth of the family and their duty has enabled them to collectively acquire 25% of the shares of Walton Worlds. The Red Family, so used to their duty, has always sided with whoever will offer the greatest security to the galaxy. They invariably vote as one, called by their duty. If someone is capable of convincing a single member of the Red Family to vote one way on a matter, they convince the entire Red Family.

Names

Ensign Rojo (Spanish): Daring and charismatic, Rojo is a charming swashbuckler.
Ensign Rouge (French): Charming and clever, Rouge keeps an eye on any attractive person around.
Ensign Scarlet (British): Staunch and conservative, Scarlet is a poster-ensign, but always takes breaks for tea.
Ensign Rood (Dutch): Fairly laid back, Rood takes things as they come and encourages others to do the same.
Ensign Rot (German): Brusque and militaristic, Rot is always looking for a fight.
Ensign Rosso (Italian): Loud and brash, Rosso understands that life is too short to do anything half-way.
Ensign Lal (Indian): Servile, but educated, Lal is a contradiction in many ways.
Ensign Vermelho (Portuguese): Vermelho has a block on her shoulder in regards to those higher up in power.
Ensign Rott (Swedish): Peaceful and calm, Rott would prefer to talk rather than fight.
Ensign Red (American): Boorish and opinionated, Red doesn't know when to shut up.
Ensign Rusko (Finnish): Squirrely and cold, Rusko isn't very well understood.
Ensign Rauður (Icelandic): Cheery and friendly, Rauður is a threat to no one.
Ensign Pula (Filipino): Attractive and exotic, Pula calmly gets what Pula wants.
Ensign Czerwony (Polish): Battle-scarred and lame, Czerwony limps along while explaining every scar.
Ensign Array (Serbian): Conflicted and indecisive, Array goes back and forth on everything.
Ensign Rutilus (Latin): Well-read and traveled, Rutilus is more at home with a book than a phaser.
Ensign Kırmızı (Turkish): Loud and proud, Kırmızı announces the honor of the Red Family at every opportunity.
Ensign красный (Russian): Quiet and dangerous, красный puts others on edge and keeps people guessing.
Ensign 丹 (Japanese): Loyal and brave, 丹 touts the values of the Interplanetary Association to everyone.
Ensign κόκκινο (Greek): Proud and unafraid, κόκκινο talks about the Old Planet (Earth) all the time and proudly details the Red lineage.
Ensign Traduku (Esperanto): Logical and incomprehensible, Traduku confuses everyone precisely because she takes everything at face value and can't understand nuance of any sort.
Ensign Adom (Hebrew): Bright and well-read, Adom wants to split hairs on every order.
Note: Feel free to come up with more either in advance or on the spot. After any death, you're welcome to pick a new member of the Red Family to play.

Who You Know

Anish Patel, Ship's Engineer
Anish keeps the Petunia running and patches things up when things go awry. An honorable task. Anish is worthy of respect.

Avi Levinstein, Ship's Doctor
Every now and then a member of the Red Family survives long enough to need some patching. Doctor Levinstein, while rather elderly, still has what it takes to do that job. Avi plays a valuable role on board the Petunia.

Dorcas Peterson, Ship's Navigator
Doesn't everyone know that she's the General's secret lover he nicknamed Petunia and had the Flagship named after? Dorcas doesn't actually seem to know anything about navigation. That could be trouble.

Hai Lee, Ship's Gunner
Hai could be a valuable addition to the Petunia. Hai hasn't actually seen any real combat yet though. It might be wise to help Hai out when things get rough.

Jeff L. Picket, Ship's Captain
Captain Picket runs a good ship. Captain Picket understands duty and honor. The Red Family is privileged to serve under such an eminent person.

Jesus Rodriguez, Ship's Bartender
Good food. Good drinks. Great ear when you really need to talk about things and the Counselor is busy. A bit of an accent the Red Family has never been able to place... which is quite impressive.

Sir Joseph Butler, General of the Starship Fleet
General Butler has never seen combat, nor has he ever been a part of the military. What kind of General is that? Oh well. At least he knows that he doesn't know anything about fighting and seems likely to stay out of the way.

Madison Wisconsin, Ship's Counselor
Counselor Wisconsin has comforted a number of members of the Red Family in times of loss. A very friendly and amicable sort. The Counselor helps keep everyone functioning, which is an honorable and important role.

RX-137, Ship's Communicator
Rex seems to need some reprogramming. Rex doesn't actually understand any other languages as far as you can tell. A quirky droid if ever there was one. At least Rex is harmless.

Wahad Th'nein, Ship's First Officer
It is an honor to serve under First Officer Th'nein. Number One understands duty. Unfortunately, Number One doesn't know how to take the stick out when it's down time.
