Character Sheet

Your name is Terry Shipton. You were born in Connecticut, but your parents moved to the Boston area when you were young. You liked it there. It was nice to live near a city. You got to go to the park and to the museums often as a kid. It was nice to explore with your family.

You ended up going to local schools for middle and high schools and you eventually went to Lashane College outside the city. You liked it there. You knew a lot of people, but you didn't really have any friends there. You tended to be a bit of a loner.

You were an English Literature major there and you liked it. You liked your professors and your classes, but you didn't really get involved in any extracurricular activities.

So you graduated. You didn't get magnificent grades, but they weren't bad. You were just being average in many ways. You weren't happy with your life, but you didn't know what else to do. So you looked for jobs around the city. You tried everything from retail clerk to waitress to volunteer at the library.

But you were running out of options. You needed a job with some security, something you could keep for a least a little while. So you got a job with the MBTA about a year and a half ago. You did the whole training thing, and you started as a red line conductor a little over a year ago. It wasn't glorious, and it wasn't very interesting, but you weren't likely to be let go because of budget cuts or anything.

You were doing the late evening run one day and you were pulling into Harvard Square Station. You weren't paying full attention, and you looked up and saw a boy, probably about your age, in the tracks, trying to get out of the way. You tried to stop the train, but you didn't do it in time. The boy died.

You were given a week off to recover. But that wasn't enough. You didn't sleep very well after that. You stayed up all night, and nodded off during work. You were late to work often and you missed meetings and such.

The police looked into the incident, as they do with all accidents. You were terrified that they would find you at fault, that they would somehow think you did it on purpose. It scared the hell out of you. You were sick to the stomach and you didn't sleep.

You didn't know there was a security tape of the night in question. The police wanted to take a look at it. You found out later that the camera was at the other end of the station from where the boy died. About a month ago, the police finished their investigation. They didn't find anything conclusive, so they went with their initial conclusion of an accident. You were off the hook. It didn't make you feel any better. You could still see the guy's eyes looking into yours as you applied the brakes. They haunted you at night.

About a week ago, your supervisor called you into his office. He told you that he was worried about you, that you were missing meetings, and that you were missing shifts, among other things. He explained that he knew that things had been tough since the accident, but if you didn't shape up, he would have no choice but to let you go.

You can't lose this job. This is the last in a line of jobs, and if you lose a government job, you won't have a chance to get a new one. You can't slip up anymore.

Your supervisor asked you to do something the other day. He told you that he needed to pick up the security tape that the police had requested and bring it to the central office after your next shift. You picked it up the other day and put it right into your purse, a place you knew you wouldn't lose it.

You were wrong.

You can't find your purse, you've turned your apartment upside down and you can't find it or the tape. It's been driving you crazy. You can't afford to lose your job, and you need that tape to keep it.

Last Thoughts Before Gamestart

Huh... It's like a college reunion, but it doesn't look like anyone remembers you. You're not really surprised, you didn't make much of an impression in college.

Who You Know on the Train

01. Jessica Hawthorne - She was that snob who went to school with you and who you were sure was cheating on her boyfriend.

02. Scott Barrister - He's Jessica's boyfriend. The two of them live upstairs in your apartment building. You can hear them having sex upstairs sometimes when you can't sleep.

03. A nerdy, awkward looking young man. He reminds you of the kind of guy that never seems to figure out how to be normal around people. He's so awkward you feel kind of sorry for him.

04. That guy looks like he should be in some old film noir movie. He's either a detective, or more likely, just wants to be one.

05. Madame Zostra - You've called her a bunch of times to get advice about your job and whatnot.

06. This guy seems like he belongs in one of those hippie coffe shops reading poetry or something. He looks well put together, but a little artsy.

07. A young woman in professional dress. She looks like she's got a lot on her mind.

08. It's clear from this young man's face that he's gone through some tough stuff lately. Poor guy. He lives in your apartment building. He's the roommate of that thuggish guy.

09. And there's the thug himself. You really don't want to get on the wrong side of this guy.

10. Mike Jones - Oh wow... it's Mike Jones. Everyone knows Mike Jones. But you knew him when he was at Lashane with you. You feel a bit special about that.

11. A big, tough-looking man with stern features. He doesn't seem to be in the mood to put up with any nonsense right now.

12. Phillip Zabrensky - Didn't he go to school with you guys too?

13. A guy who is way too well-dressed and impatient-looking to be the sort who belongs on the subway.

14. And naturally, a hobo would have to take up residence in your train. You wish he'd find somewhere else to park him.
