Hai Lee, Gunner

Your position on this ship brings you great pride, coming from a hard and lonely life as an orphan. Your parents died when you were a baby. You heard rumors that they might have been killed by the Agribusiness Mafia, but you don’t know. You were raised by your maiden aunt who lived on a small farm. You never starved, but the work was hard and boring. Particularly boring. Nothing ever happened out in the rural nowhere where you lived.

Your aunt had a little bit of stock in the Agribusiness Mafia, just enough to get them to leave her little plot of land alone. You saw what sorts of things happened to the farmers who lived around you and didn't own stock and it wasn't pretty. They could be shuffled from place to place, and lose everything. Despite her stock, from the way she lived you would have thought that she was nearly penniless. The computer in the house was replaced only every five years, and every item of clothing you owned had been worn by someone else.

When you were 18, your aunt died and left you a little bit of Agribusiness Stock. It isn’t much, but it’s enough that you can be a full citizen. When you were 19, you were accepted into the Interplanetary Alliance Starfleet Academy, and went into training for the most dangerous and exciting job you could think of: gunner. They trained you in your task and in how to attend a party without embarrassing yourself. They gave you a uniform, and, for the first time in your life you had new clothing! You were particularly good at your social lessons: an officer must look good and act his best in order to show off the best side of their corporation. You were always a little shy at social functions, but that was best for a low-ranking individual like yourself.

When you finally got your first post, everything was great... until the first battle. You were so excited. Then you fell asleep at the controls. It was strange, but you didn’t worry too much about it. You thought it was some fluke. During your second battle, it happened again. You went to the ship's counselor and were diagnosed with stress-induced narcolepsy. Before this, nothing had ever happened in your life that was exciting enough to trigger it.

You were terrified that they were going to discharge you, but you were reprieved. You were so good at parties, and looked like such a perfect gunner that they found a place for you: the flagship Petunia. The Petunia never gets into battles and is always well protected while it flies around carrying dignitaries. You did very well in parades and maneuvers. No one ever needed to know that you couldn’t stand up in a real fight. Of course, it means that nothing exciting ever happens. Again. You're never going to get to be anywhere with real excitement.

On the Petunia, you had a fit of narcolepsy one time and got sent to the doctor. That was when you met Dr. Avi Levinstein. Avi is amazing. Avi has more skill packed into those delicate hands than you dreamed was possible. Avi has the knowledge of years of treatment and many medical awards. No one that skilled and experienced could possibly be interested in you. You’re so young and inexperienced, and you can’t even stay awake through a battle. You would never admit your love to Avi, because you couldn’t stand the rejection.

Even so, you have been finding excuses to see Avi every chance you can. You have been helping out with some tasks, and trying to convince Avi to find a cure for your narcolepsy. To encourage that process, you have been having a few more episodes lately. Can you help it if your love gets you excited? Well, alright, so most of the time you’re faking it, but you do have a problem, and this is an excuse to see your true love.

Corporate Allegiance: Agribusiness Mafia
Stock Owned: 0.1% of Agribusiness Mafia

Who You Know

Anish Patel: The head of engineering. Anish seems very skilled. Anish is an alien from Gattpatt, but seems nice enough.

Avi Levenstein: The wonderful doctor. You have been exaggerating your illness just to spend time with Avi. Any chance you get to be with Avi is wonderful. If only you had any chance.

Dominique Buckley: A media celebrity traveling on the Petunia. You have seen Dominique in a few things. Dominique's work seems to be pretty good.

Don Don Donaldson: A mafia Don who is traveling on the Petunia to take Dorcas away and marry her. While your aunt was attached to the Mafia, you don't trust anything about them. From everything you have heard, it sounds like they killed your parents.

Dorcas Peterson: The Navigation Officer. Dorcas is Petunia, the lover of the General, after whom the ship was named. This is supposed to be a secret, but everyone on the ship knows by now. She is not happy about her engagement to Don Don.

Jeff L. Picket: The Captain. Jeff is a good captain. He is very enthusiastic and always keeps his crew pointed in the right direction. Like you, he came out seeking adventure. You feel a bit sorry for him stuck being captain of this glorified ferry.

Jesus Rodriguez: The bartender. Jesus is easy to talk to, and makes good food. You can sit at the bar for hours, lamenting your problems and eating his food.

Sir Joseph Butler: The General of the Spaceship Fleet. The general travels aboard this ship as often as possible to see Petunia, his lover. He's here now for a farewell to Petunia before she marries the Don.

Madison Wisconson: The Counselor. You are so glad that Walton Worlds installed Madison on this ship. Without Madison's kindly ear and helpful advice you would be lost. Madison just has a way of making everything better.

RX-137: The Communications Officer. It seems odd that the communications officer would be an android, but Rex does a good job. Rex is also convinced that it was a person at some point.

Wahad Th'nein: The First Officer. Wahad is known as Number One to most of the crew. Wahad is a good officer, but can be a little hard on people. Not everyone had a privileged upbringing and all the best chances like Number One.

Goals

  • Find a cure for your narcolepsy.
  • Seize every opportunity for excitement.
  • Sigh. Avi.
