Life History

There was a time when life was simple and you lived in the lap of luxury. Now you are enmeshed in a complicated and difficult struggle to save the world and you have never been happier. For the first time, you are doing something important. Even more importantly, you are with Chris.

Growing up, you led a privileged life. You went to a private high school, and went straight on to Princeton. You went to Harvard for law school, where you met Mary Wallace, a Harvard undergraduate. You started dating Mary, and proposed to her on the day she graduated. You got a job working in the office of the district attorney in Ohio. Shortly after moving, you and Mary got married.

After working at the district attorney's office for a few years, you ran for state legislature, and got in. You served two terms in the state legislature before getting on the Democratic ticket for the House of Representatives. You unseated the Republican incumbent, and were able to support some popular legislation and increase your popularity.

After two terms in the House, you ran for an open Senate seat. Your popularity led you to a fairly easy win. Once you were there, you got cocky. Your wife, Mary, had stood by your side through all these years. Yet once you had power she seemed boring. Other senators all around you were having affairs, going out drinking and living large.

You started seeing a 19 year old prostitute. If it had stayed there, everything would have probably been okay, but you became infatuated. You had to have her for yourself. You started paying more and more to maintain her as a mistress. Your wife started to worry about the money and had you followed. Within days, it was in all the papers. Your wife left you, and you resigned in humiliation.

For weeks, you wallowed in misery, but then you saw a sign for the MAGE Institute. You remembered hearing Chris speak in the Senate twice. You had been impressed by Chris, particularly the last time. You thought Chris was a little overboard, but the dangers she spoke about were real. Maybe this was somewhere that your knowledge and connections could do some good.

You showed up at Chris's doorstep and asked to help. Quickly you were brought into the organization and began putting your experience, knowledge and connections to work for them.

Over the next few months you got more and more attached to Chris. Over time, close friendship turned into love. Chris was always afraid of getting too close to anyone, but you got under her shell. After you had been lovers for a year, you proposed marriage.

Chris hid from you for days. You knew that you had screwed up, that she was going to leave you. When she came back, she told you that she was afraid to marry you because she was too contentious. She claimed that she was going to be assassinated or arrested. You told her that you were willing to take that risk. You were willing to do anything for Chris. You converted to Judaism for her. You gave up your wealth for her and her cause. You would give up your life to save her.

You want all the time that you can get with Chris, but you are terrified for her. She is your wife and you want to protect her, but she won't listen to reason. The work that she is doing needs to be done, but the way she does it puts her in constant risk.

Over the past year you have been pushing back against some of the extremist thought in this group. Terrorist activities and street corner rants don't win sympathy. You need more advertising campaigns, political action committee donors, talk show appearances and speeches to the Senate. You started a group within MAGE, quickly nicknamed the Peaceniks, to spread the word in a peaceful and legal manner. Quite a few of the inner circle members of the MAGE Institute support you. If you can make the public truly understand what is going on, they will vote to change things. Despite all the flaws in the American system, nothing can stand for long against a true shift in the beliefs of the American people, and that shift is starting to happen.

However, even speeches in the Senate can go too far. This last time Chris went over the line. You have gone with her before the Senate twice now. It is important to get up and publicly denounce what is happening, but revealing the financial entanglements of everyone in government on national television went too far. Sooner rather than later, people will come after her and you won't be able to protect her.

Recently Chris has begun talking about building a spaceship. She has started to recruit engineers and make plans. You're not entirely sure that it's practical, or the best use of funds, but it's sure better than industrial sabotage. Maybe if Chris is focusing on her spaceship, she'll bring in more engineers and get rid of some of the militants.

People You Know

Chris Carpenter - Your beloved wife. You would do anything to keep Chris happy, safe and by your side. Sadly, there is probably nothing you can do to keep people from coming after her after everything she has done.

Pearl Skala - Pearl has provided some very important information to MAGE. Even so, you really don't like being complicit in corporate espionage, no matter how valuable it is. Every crime that is committed for MAGE is a strike against it in most people's eyes.

Andrea Skala - Andrea is a scientist who really understands the need to communicate with the people. Working with Andrea, you have put together some pamphlets and ads that have really won some people over. Andrea has a scientist's fear of strong words, but she has good ideas.

James Papadopoulos - You really wish Chris wouldn't let people like this into her inner circle. Violent, dangerous individuals like James can only damage the image of the group. Some of the activities may go undetected, but one terrorist act being linked to MAGE can bring the whole structure down. You don't know what exactly he's done, but you suspect his involvement in number of incidents of industrial sabotage... or worse.

John Papadopoulos - John is a great writer, at least when he isn't bouncing off of walls. You really wish he'd come to his senses and take the medication that would help him so much.

Phillip Harrison - Phillip's evangelism annoys you sometimes, but you got used to dealing with people like him when you were in the Senate. He does know how to reach some people who you could never connect with.

Colonel Frank Bartholemew - You have a lot of sympathy for war vets who never got their lives back. You would be happy to buy Frank a meal any day. You just really wish that Chris wouldn't invite him to eat at your table. He is not stable enough to be trusted.

Tamasa Valappil - You have a lot of sympathy for Tamasa's skepticism. As much as you love Chris you frequently worry that she is overstating her case and exaggerating the dangers. Tamasa's designs have served well on your pamphlets and ads.

Jamie Schreiber - Chris moved in with Jamie's family when Jamie was 16, and has since become somewhat of a mentor to Jamie. Jamie is also worried about when Chris is going to get herself into too much trouble. You and Jamie have become friends over the past few years, and this close contact is one of the things that helps you cope with the instability of MAGE and Chris's life.

Eve Matthews - Eve has provided valuable information to MAGE on Chevron, one of the truly nasty oil companies. You still aren't comfortable with corporate espionage, but some of what she has found out has made great news headlines.

Simone Cylima - Simone honestly creeps you out. She's not as violent as the other extremists, but she doesn't seem to care much about other people. You don't know exactly what she uses her computer skills for in MAGE, but you're pretty sure it's not all legal.

Judah Isaacson - You brought Judah here and immediately regretted it. Judah tried to pursue Chris, but, thankfully, she did not return his interest. Ever since, he has been resentful of you. He is devoted to the cause, but he seems to value it above everything else, including his companions.

Jude Fairchild - Of all the people you want to see out of this organization, Jude is the worst. Not only is he violent, dangerous and unpredictable, he's making John miserable. They have been lovers for years, but Jude won't admit it and you suspect that Jude beats John.
